SANTA CLARA, Calif-
Laurel Stricklin scored five goals against Cal State Bakersfield and six different players scored a goal against UC San Diego, but Sonoma State lost both games, 10-8 and 11-6, respectively on the opening day of The Bronco, hosted by Santa Clara University at the Sullivan Aquatic Center on Saturday. The Seawolves fall to 6-23 on the year.
Cal State Bakersfield 10, Sonoma State 8
In the opening game on Saturday, both teams went into the second period tied at 1-1 before the Roadrunners outscored the Seawolves 4-1 to take a 5-2 lead into halftime.
The match went back and forth in the final 16 minutes as each team scored three goals each in the third frame. In the fourth, Sonoma State scored three goals while holding Cal State Bakersfield to just two, but the three-goal lead into the final eight minutes proved to be too much for the Seawolves to overcome.
Stricklin scored five goals,
Emily Pearce had two and
Kyleigh Shea netted one for Sonoma State.
Gina Uliana made five saves in the cage.
UC San Diego 11, Sonoma State 6
The Tritons jumped out to a large 7-3 lead at halftime and added three more goals in the third period en route to a 11-6 victory over the Seawolves on Saturday afternoon.

Sonoma State will return to the pool on Sunday to wrap up The Bronco with two matches -- Cal State San Bernardino (11:45 a.m.) and host Santa Clara (4:45 p.m.) -- before returning home on Apr. 17 for the season finale against Cal State Monterey Bay.
