Box Score: Sonoma State 3, Cal State Stanislaus 2
TURLOCK, Calif- Down two sets to none, Cal State Stanislaus made a furious comeback and tied the match at two sets apiece, but Sonoma State regained composure and outlasted the Warriors, as the Seawolves earned their first conference victory of 2010 with a 3-2 victory on Friday night at Warrior Arena. In the opening two sets, the Seawolves cruised to set victories by scores of 25-21 and 25-16. In the third set, it looked as if Sonoma State would pull out the three-set sweep after going up 18-14, but Cal State Stanislaus fought back and forced a fourth set with a 11-5 run to clinch the third set's narrow 25-23 victory.
In the fourth set, SSU fell behind 14-10 before the Warriors went on a 7-1 run to control the set at 21-11. A quick four-point Seawolf run would close the gap at 21-15, but CSUS scored four of the next five points to force the deciding fifth set with a convincing 25-16 win.
Trying to find the momentum to grab their first conference win, Sonoma State scored eight straight points, including three kills from
Nicole Gragnola to pull ahead 10-3. Cal State Stanislaus came back, though, as they did all night, to pull within two at 13-11, but two Warrior miscues ended the threat and the Seawolves escaped with the much needed five-set win.
