Seawolves Fall In Three Sets To No. 5 Coyotes

ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Sonoma State got just six kills from Keala Peterson and Devynne Johnson added five, but fifth ranked Cal State San Bernardino cruised to a 3-0 victory behind the hot hands of Jane Chefeh and Samantha Middleborn and the rest of the Coyotes, who hit .383 as a team. The Seawolves fall even in conference play at 3-3 (6-4 overall) while CSUSB remains undefeated in the CCAA at 6-0 (9-1 overall).

Cal State San Bernardino led from start to finish in the first two sets, jumping out to convincing 25-14 and 25-14 wins, including a dominating offensive performance in the second frame. The Coyotes hit .467 as a team with 16 kills and just two errors in 30 attacks.

The Seawolves played tough in the third set, forcing three tie scores and even led 7-5 at one point, but CSUSB fired off six straight points to take the lead for good, winning the third set 25-16.

Peterson and Johnson combined for 11 of Sonoma State's 24 kills, as the Seawolves hit at a .110 clip in the match. Taylor Krenwinkel did all she could on defense, digging up a team-high 11 attacks.

Cal State San Bernardino's Middleborn could not be stopped, accounting for over one-third of the team's offense, with 10 kills, six service aces and six total blocks, three of which were solo rejections. Chefeh led the team in kills with 11, erring on just one of 20 swings.

Sonoma State will host Humboldt State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in The Wolves' Den.
