Water Polo To Host Meet & Greet With 4-Time Olympic Medalist

ROHNERT PARK -- On Nov. 1, 2012, the Sonoma State women's water polo team will welcome four-time Olympic medalist Heather Petri to the Sonoma State University campus as an opportunity for the community to interact with an Olympian and learn her story of how she has become one of the greatest water polo players of all time and also about what it takes to compete at the highest level possible.

The event on Nov. 1 will take place in the Commons at Sonoma State University and is open to the public.  Admission is free.

Petri, who was born in Oakland, Calif. and was a two-time All-American at the University of California at Berkeley, was instrumental in helping the United States women's national team to a gold medal in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London this past July.  She also helped USA win the silver medal in 2000 in Sydney, Australia, the bronze medal in 2004 in Athens, Greece, and another silver medal in 2008 in Beijing, China.

In fact, Petri was a teammate of current SSU head women's water polo coach, Coralie Simmons, in the 2000 Summer Olympic Games when USA brought home the aforementioned silver medal.
