ROHNERT PARK -- The Sonoma State men's basketball program has announced the addition of one more student-athlete to its 2012 recruiting class. Head coach
Pat Fuscaldo, associate head coach
Rich Shayewitz and the Seawolves will welcome junior transfer Emmanuel Bradford (Oakland, Calif./Antioch HS/Los Medanos College) to the team in 2012-13.
“Emmanuel is that point guard that we really need right now,” Fuscaldo said. “Between him and Jabri (Jenkins), we should be able to make up for the loss of (Steven) Pratt. He is super quick, super athletic, he can defend, he can get to the basket, he can make free throws, and he's just a real tough kid. He is a little older and with that, he has a little more experience under his belt.”
Bradford, a 6-foot-1 guard out of Oakland, Calif. is coming off two outstanding seasons at Los Medanos College in Brentwood. He led the Mustangs as a sophomore last season, scoring 19.1 points per game on 50.6 percent shooting in 20 appearances. As a standout at Antioch HS, Bradford averaged 17 points, five assists and four rebounds per contest, earning All-Bay Valley League Honorable Mention accolades as a junior in 2007-08 and All-BVL Second Team honors as a senior in 2008-09.
The Oakland native will join the program's 2012 recruiting class of Isaiah Brown, Michael Avery, Nathan Molony-Benjamin and Andy Luttringer on the Seawolves' roster in 2012-13, which lost three players to graduation --
Steven Pratt,
Ashley Arnott and
Andy Shannon.
Sonoma State enjoyed its best season in seven years in 2011-12, finishing with a 17-11 overall mark and came in fourth place in the CCAA standings at 14-8. The Seawolves hosted their first-ever conference playoff game on Feb. 28 and defeated Cal State San Bernardino, 61-60, to move onto the semifinal round in La Jolla. However, SSU suffered a heart-breaking 76-74 loss to Chico State at the buzzer three days later, ending its bid for a CCAA title and an appearance in the NCAA tournament.
