BOX SCORE Fresno Pacific 68, Sonoma State 65 -- Box Score

ROHNERT PARK --
Brandon Glanz again led the Sonoma State men's basketball team in points for the second consecutive night, dropping in 16 points on a perfect 6 for 6 from the field and 4 of 6 from the free throw line, but the Seawolves (0-2) suffered a nailbiting 68-65 loss to visiting Fresno Pacific (2-2) to wrap up the 13th annual Ron Logsdon Basketball Classic on Saturday night at The Wolves' Den.  Glanz earned All-Tournament honors for his efforts this weekend.

Dominican earned the team championship after going 2-0 this weekend and remaining undefeated on the year at 4-0 after beating Cal State East Bay 84-70 in the first game on Saturday.  The Penguins' Dominique Taplin grabbed Logsdon Classic Most Valuable Player honors, averaging 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.  Myles Carrillo from Dominican was named to the All-Tournament squad, in addition to Jacari Whitfield and Gabe Kindred from Cal State East Bay and Trevon Clayton from Fresno Pacific.

Despite shooting 55.3 percent from the floor on 26 of 47 shooting, holding Fresno Pacific to just 38.6 percent shooting (22 of 57), and dominating the paint by outscoring the Sunbirds 42-16 beneath the basket, Sonoma State couldn't contain FPU's long-range artillery.  More than half of Fresno Pacific's 57 shots was taken from beyond the three-point arc as the visitors connected on 10 of 32 from downtown.

The game would come down to the final minute as James Davis would drain a three-pointer with 54 seconds left to bring the Seawolves within one point at 66-65.  After a quick timeout, the Sunbirds would possess the ball for the entire 35-second shot clock, but only score one point out of it on one of two free throws by Malcolm Griffin after being fouled by Sterling Arterberry.  On the ensuing possession, Davis got blocked on a layup attempt that would have knotted the game and SSU committed an immediate foul to stop the clock and put Fresno Pacific on the line.  Again, FPU would only connect on one of two free throws, keeping SSU within three points with 10 seconds left in regulation.  However, two three-point attempts by Davis in the final seconds banked off the rim and the Seawolves would see their season begin with two consecutive losses.

It was the culmination of a back-and-forth battle all night long between the two squads, but Sonoma State held the lead for 30:09 on Saturday, whereas Fresno Pacific led for only 5:46.  In fact, the Seawolves held their largest lead of 10 at the 8:38 mark of the first half, but the lead would dwindle throughout the night. SSU's last held the lead with 3:02 left at 62-61 after a Glanz jumper in the paint.

Four Seawolves scored in double-figures on Saturday -- Glanz (16), Arterberry (14), Justin Herold (12) and Davis (10).  On the other side, four Sunbirds also scored in double-figures, led by the game-high 18 points out of the hands of Clayton, who also brought down a game-high nine rebounds

Sonoma State travels to Belmont on Wednesday to take on Notre Dame de Namur at 7:00 pm before taking part in the Golden Gate Challenge on Nov. 27-30, hosted by NCAA Division I San Francisco, in which the Seawolves will play three games against Division I teams including San Francisco, Illinois State and Vermont around the Thanksgiving holiday.
