Noelle Herrera earned First Team honors, highlighting Wednesday's release of the 2015 Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) All-Conference Teams. Three other Seawolves were named to the All-WWPA teams, including seniors
Brittny Hummel and
Alexa May (both Second Team) and junior
Jessica Becker (Honorable Mention).
Carlon, a freshman from San Diego, Calif., scored six goals and added nine assists with 13 steals in 26 games played for the Seawolves this season, topping all other conference newcomers in those respective categories. She was also named to the WWPA All-Freshman Team. It is the first time in the history of the program that a Sonoma State student-athlete has been named the WWPA Newcomer of the Year.
Herrera, from Orange, Calif., notched her second consecutive First Team All-WWPA award for leading the Seawolves in goals scored with 33 and drawing a WWPA-best 65 ejections at a rate of 2.5 per contest. She is also sported the fourth-best shooting percentage in the conference, caging 40.2 percent of her shots.
Hummel, a native of Santa Barbara, Calif., who earned WWPA First Team honors last season, has scored 14 goals, added 19 assists and recorded a team-best 26 steals to earn Second Team honors this season. She is eighth in the WWPA in assists and is seventh in field blocks per game with 0.31. May, a Second Team selection this season from Pismo Beach, Calif., caged 13 goals, had 10 assists, 13 steals and 17 ejections drawn as a senior this season. Becker, from Huntington Beach, Calif., is tied for 10th in the WWPA this season with 17 assists, which is also second on the team for SSU. She also has 12 goals and 19 steals to her name in 2015.
Sonoma State was selected as the No. 2 seed in the upcoming WWPA Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, as voted on by the league's coaches late last week. The Seawolves will open the conference tournament on Friday at 11:00 am Pacific Time against No. 5 seed Gannon University.
