Rohnert Park, Calif. – Sonoma State is now 6-9 overall after beating Cal State Monterey Bay 11-8 in today's home WWPA matchup.
Saturday's conference victory featured four goals from Jojo Williams, three goals from Annika Erickson, and a season-high 16 saves in the cage by Brooke Sullivan.
The Seawolves defense held the Otters to one run in the opening quarter. Sonoma States Amber Hellickson struck first, at 5:14 with the games first goal. Slow to respond the Otters found the net at 3:41 to tie the game 1-1. Three consecutive possessions, the Seawolves extended their lead to 4-1 to close out the first quarter. Annika Erickson found the back of the cage twice while teammate Taylor Brookes added one of her own.
Cal State Monterey Bay scored the first two goals of the second period to get within one point of the Seawolves 4-3. Hailey Gellert added to the Seawolves frame with a goal at 3:32, answered with a goal by the Otters at 3:00 to keep within one goal 5-4. Sonoma State extended its lead, closing out the first half with two goals, by Hellickson (2:32) and Erickson (1:04) for a 7-4 lead at halftime.
Jordan Williams scored both of the Seawolves goals in the third quarter, at 5:18 and 3:01 for a 9-4 lead over Cal State Monterey Bay. Sonoma States offense held the Otters from scoring for most of the third period, up until Olivia Centis found the net with 20 seconds remaining on the clock.
Williams with a quick goal in the final quarter, boosted the Seawolves lead to 10-5 at 7:40. The Otters strung a pair of goals together to lessen the Sonoma States lead to 10-7. Amanda Weddle added an insurance goal for the Seawolves at 4:07; then the Otter recorded the game's final goal at 2:14 for a final score of 11-8.
