Geneva, Ohio – Despite outscoring Gannon in the opening quarter, Sonoma State fell 9-5 to the Golden Knights in game one of the WWPA championship tournament.Â

Friday's conference matchup featured a season-high single game two goals by
Camille Grace.

Sonoma State outscored Gannon 2 to 1 in the opening quarter; the Golden Knights scored the games opening goal at the 5:27 mark. Then
Jordan Williams even the score with an assist by
Taylor Brooks. Brooks then scored one of her own to help the Seawolves gain a 2-1 lead over the Golden Knights.

Gannon shut out the Seawolves in the second quarter to regain a one-goal advantage 3-2.

The Golden Knights scored the second half's first goal, answered by
Camille Grace (assisted by
Samantha Dieterle) to keep the Seawolves within a goal of Gannon. Gannon found the net at 3:40, to gain a 5-3 hold on the Seawolves. During the next possession,
Amanda Weddle kept the Seawolves within reach of an even score with an assist by Williams (5-4). The Golden knights strung a pair of goals together before the third came to a close.

The Seawolves' Grace opened the final quarter with a goal 7-5, then the Golden Knight extended its lead and final score adding two for a 9-5 final.  Â

The Seawolves are back in the pool Saturday at 1:30 p.m. (EST) facing either No. 8 seed Monterey Bay or No. 1 seed UC San Diego, which will be determined after today's 3:00 p.m. (EST) game.
