T&F: Bomarito Breaks her Third School Record in 10k, Multiple Seasons Bests at Mangrum Invitational

SAN MARCOS, CALIF. - On Friday and Saturday, March 24th and 25th, the Sonoma State track & field team competed in two southern California events at Cal State San Marcos and Point Loma Nazarene to conclude a successful weekend with multiple season bests and a ANOTHER school record.

MANGRUM INVITATIONAL:

Gianna Bomarito continues her dominant and historic freshman campaign on both the cross country and track & field teams as she finished first overall in the 10k and set a new school record with a time of 34:21.82. This goes down as her third school record and her second of the track & field season. She would win her second event of her career and record the first sub-35 minute 10k time in program history, once again decisively breaking the previous record by more than a minute. With the impressive performance, Bomarito held on to the top 10k time in all of Division II on the weekend.

Along with another school record were multiple season bests from several Seawolves at the Mangrum Invitational. Second year track member Katie Sheldon would place in the top-10 and record a season best 1:06.20 in the 400 meter hurdles. The Seawolves also had participants in the unique 3000 meter steeplechase as Alex Boyle, Sara Wenger, and Alex Doyle all recorded season bests. Boyle would have the top spot for SSU with a time of 12:17.52 good for 12th place. Rounding out the track events for SSU were Abby Ribet and Sophie Rodriguez who joined Bomarito in the 10k. Both would record new season bests with top-10 finishes and sub-40 times in the event.

In the field events, first year throwers Halle McDaniels, Ariyah Ford and Kyra Togni would all record season bests in their respective events. McDaniels put up a top-10 throw with a mark of 35'1 ¾''. Ford, Togni and Lopez would highlight the hammer throw with top-10 finishes. Togni would be SSU's top finisher with a 3rd place mark of 137' 4''.
