SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. - The Sonoma State track & field team stayed in the bay area this weekend to compete in the annual Mike Fanelli Track Classic hosted by San Francisco State. Head coach
David Lawrence Jr. brought a more modified group over the three-day meet to compete in various track events including a pair of relays, the 100 meter dash, 400 meters, 800 meters, and the 400 meter hurdles.
Sophomore runners
Sara Wenger and
Alex Doyle would get their second crack at the 3000 meter steeplechase on Friday. Wenger would shave off nearly 6 seconds from her time at the Mangrum Invitational last week and clock in with a time of 12:19.29, good for 27th place. Doyle would follow just two spots behind with a time of 13:36.21.
The highlight of the weekend would come with an impressive performance in the 4x400 meter relay featuring
Nia Arceneaux,
Mia Cecilio,
Makayla Bernadez and
Katie Sheldon. The group would record a time of 4:01.84, good for 3rd place out of a competitive 8-team field. Their time would also go down as the 11th fastest in program history and the best recorded time in the event since 2004. The same group would also compete in the 4x100 meter relay on Saturday, recording a time of 49.33 seconds good for the top time in their section and 5th overall.
Sophomore sprinter
Nia Arceneaux would also represent SSU in the 100 meter dash and record a time of 13.11 seconds, good for a top-3 finish in her section. The 400 meters would include
Makayla Bernadez and
Mia Cecilio. Separated by no more than a second, Bernadez would clock a time of 1:01.6 to represent the top finisher for the Seawolves while Cecilio recorded a time of 1:01.96.
The 800 meters featured second year runner
Alex Boyle who would record a time of 2:26.45 good for 3rd in her section out of a near 100-person field. Additional SSU participants at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic are listed below:
