PUEBLO, CO. - On Thursday, May 25th, Sonoma State freshman
Gianna Bomarito competed in the 10000 meter race as a part of the night cap on day one of the NCAA DII National Championships. Bomarito would become just the second SSU track & field member to compete at nationals and the first since 2006. She would record a time of 36:11.36 to finish 15th out of the 22 participants and be the top finisher for the CCAA.
Simply put, Bomarito has put together one of the most dominant athletic campaigns in Sonoma State history as she finishes the 2022-23 year with three school records in the 5k, 6k and 10k. Additionally, Bomarito also became the first track & field member to be named CCAA Freshman of the Meet at the 2023 conference championships after winning the 10k event and placing third in the 5k. She became the first conference champion for the Seawolves since Becky Zachau won the hammer throw back in 2002.
Congratulations once again to
Gianna Bomarito on a historic freshman campaign and representing Sonoma State at the 2023 NCAA National Championships. Full meet results can be found
