SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Sonoma State track and field team opened their 2024 campaign with the Dominican Invitational in San Rafael. The Seawolves participated in several events and came away with some excellent performances.
SSU dominated the 1500m race, taking the top three spots led by
Alex Boyle winning the race with a time of 5:13.85.
Loralye Clements finished less than one second behind at 5:14.35 while
Abby Carroll placed third. The Seawolves also took the top three spots in the 3000m with
Sophie Rodriguez finishing 30 seconds before any other finisher with a time 10:49.91.
Liliana Salado and
Abby Ribet placed second and third respectively.
On the field side, Sonoma State was equally as dominant in the discus throw taking the top four spots in a field of 14.
Halle McDaniels led the way with a throw of 38.18m while
Lily Garcia finished right behind at 37.49m.
Ariyah Ford and Rebecca Hampton closed out the top-4 spots, both topping 35m. Ford and McDaniels both finished in the top-5 in the shot put with
Chloe Traxler taking the fifth spot.
Sydney Lopes added a second place finish in the 200m while Samantha Rodriguez finished second in the pole vault.
The Seawolves will compete again on March 1 at the West Coast Opener and March 2 at the Cal Opener.
