DAVIS, CALIF. - On Saturday, March 9th, the Sonoma State track & field team stayed local to compete in the Aggie Open hosted by Division I member UC Davis. The Seawolves competed in 13 events over the course of two days which included 5 field events and 8 track events. Six members kicked things off on Friday in the hammer throw.
Sophomore thrower
Halle McDaniels placed 8th overall as the top Seawolves finisher with a season best mark of 153' 2''. Four of the six participants in the hammer throw recorded new season bests including
Ariyah Ford,
Lily Garcia and
Beck Hampton.
Kathryn Rust got Saturday started in the javelin with a throw of 77' 10'' to take 3rd in her heat and 13th place overall. Ford, McDaniels, Garcia and freshman
Beck Hampton would partake in the discus event for the Seawolves. Ford smashed her previous season best with a throw of 139' 10'' to place 8th in a field of nearly 30 participants. McDaniels, Garcia and Hampton would finish inside the top-12 as the top DII finishers.
Kathryn Rust was the lone SSU participant in the 400 meter hurdles. She placed 7th overall with a time of 15.90 seconds. Sophomore
Mia Cecilio and junior
Makayla Bernadez went back-to-back in the 200 meter dash. 27.10 seconds for Cecilio and 27.12 seconds for Bernadez was good enough to finish 11th and 12th place respectively.
The top performance of the day went to junior
Katie Sheldon who placed 6th in a field of 21 runners in the 400 meters. Sheldon was the top DII finisher in the entire field with a time of 1:00.41.
Sydney Lopes also competed in the 400 meters and recorded a time of 1:04.41. In the 5000 meters, three year veteran
Sophie Rodriguez recorded a top-10 finish with a time of 18:22.34. Junior transfer
Liliana Salado followed with a time of 19:16.85 to round out the event for Sonoma State.
