Seawolves Roll To 16-9 Victory Over Otters

Holly Armijo, Laurel Stricklin and Brooke Smith combined for six goals.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif- In Sonoma State's final match of the regular season, the Seawloves were looking to head into the playoffs on a high note. Playing in their final home game of their established careers, Holly Armijo, Laurel Stricklin and Brooke Smith combined for six goals to lead Sonoma State to a 16-9 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay. Sonoma State finishes 7-25 overall and 5-13 in the WWPA. The Otters drop to 9-22 and 1-6.

Sonoma State fell behind early in the first quarter, but a pair of goals from Kelsey Lowy and Lindsay Rangel to close out the quarter gave the Seawolves a slight 4-3 edge heading into the second frame. Sonoma State matched it first quarter output with four more goals from Smith, Lowy, Emily Pearce and Armijo to take an 8-5 lead into the half.

From then on, it was all Seawolves as Sonoma State came up big in the third frame, scoring five goals from five different players, including three in the final minutes. Sonoma State rode out their large lead through the fourth quarter to win one for the seniors in their final performance at Dr. G. Edward Rudloff Pool.

Lowy helped ignite the Seawolf offense, scoring four goals to go along with a pair of assists. Stricklin provided three goals of her own and Smith scored a goal along with four assists.

Gina Uliana swiped nine saves as well as snatching two steals of her own.

Sonoma State will look to gather all of their strength when they head down to Cal State Bakersfield to compete in the WWPA Championships which begin on Friday April 30th.
