HONOLULU, Hawai'i- After a blistering offensive performance in a three-set sweep over Chaminade on Saturday afternoon, Sonoma State went to battle with No. 13 Seattle Pacific on Saturday night, eventually forcing a deciding fifth set. The Seawolves, who won the second and fourth sets, led 14-11 and played for match point in the fifth, but the Falcons earned five unanswered points to win 16-14 and steal the match victory. SSU wraps up the season-opening Hilton Waikiki Beach Invitational with a 2-2 overall record while SPU moves to 3-1.

Sonoma State 3, Chaminade 0

In one of the most prolific offensive attacks in Sonoma State volleyball history, the Seawolves blasted 46 kills in 92 attacks, erring on just eight swings -- a .413 hitting percentage. SSU rolled to 25-15, 15-13, 25-11 wins to claim the sweep.

It began in the opening set when SSU came out firing on all cylinders, smashing 16 of its 25 attempts for kills, making just one error to sport a .600 clip. Sonoma State slowed a bit in the second and third sets, but clearly continued its offensive prowess, hitting at .385 and .317 clips, respectively.

In the end, Keala Peterson led the way -- flawlessly -- hammering 13 kills in 29 swings with no errors (.448). Regan Richert recorded her first double-digit kill match of her collegiate career with ten in 23 attacks, erring five times. Hayley Ross handed out 33 assists and added four aces from the service line.

Chaminade's Crystal Powell led the Silverswords with seven kills and Poerava Gantt added six, but the Seawolf defense held the hosts to just .105.

#13 Seattle Pacific 3, Sonoma State 2

Almost identical to Thursday's season-opener against Northwest Nazarene, Sonoma State played from behind all evening. After dropping the first set to Seattle Pacific, 25-18, SSU came back to even the match with a 25-20 win in set number two. The Falcons would come back with a 25-21 win in set three before succombing to a convincing 25-14 defeat by the Seawolves in the fourth frame.

Enduring a five-set match for the second time in three days, Sonoma State would fight through six ties and three lead changes in the final set alone. Seattle Pacific lead 6-3 early, then by a score of 8-5. The Seawolves wouldn't go down with out a fight, though, as they would outscore the Falcons 9-3 to over the next 12 points to force match point at 14-11. However, a SPU kill and service ace, mixed in with three SSU attack errors spelled a come-from-behind 16-14 Falcon victory to clinch the match.

Peterson recorded a season-high 19 kills after 53 attacks; she hit .245 for the match. Ally Sather sported a .324 hitting percentage with 17 kills and six errors in 34 swings. Kelsey Hull added double-digit kills for the second night in a row. Taylor Krenwinkel made 12 digs, her 10th straight match with double-digit digs, dating back to last season -- Krenwinkel has recorded double-digit digs in 85 career matches and is second on the all-time digs list with 1,595. She needs just 110 to break the program's career record (1,704) held by former SSU student-athlete Taylor Manton.

Seattle Pacific had three players with ten or more kills -- Cailin Fellows (16), Lindsey Wodrich (15) and Nikki Lowell (12). Wodrich completed the double-double with 12 digs. Anna Herold led all defenders with 19 digs.

Sonoma State will return home on Friday to open up California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play against Chico State. First serve from The Wolves' Den is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on the Seawolf Sports Network.
