DAVIS, CALIF. - On Friday, March 11th, the Sonoma State track & field team continued their spring campaign as they competed in the Aggie Open hosted by UC Davis. Friday featured the field events which included the men and women hammer throws. Junior
Haley Azevedo and freshman
Emma Lopez highlighted the event for SSU and also competed in their second event of the spring season as they both competed in last week's Kim Duyst Invitational hosted by Stanislaus State.
Both Azevedo and Lopez set new season marks in the hammer throw in today's Aggie Open. After finishing third in her flight last week in the Kim Duyst Invitational with a mark of 34.89m, Azevedo set a new season best with a mark of 36.21m. She would finish 6th in her flight and 18th out of 24 throwers, also a new season best.
Freshman
Emma Lopez would finish just two spots back of her teammate with a new season best of 35.05m. Lopez and Azevedo would each finish inside the top-20 out of the entire field giving them both new season bests in marks and overall finish.
The Seawolves will return to Davis tomorrow morning for day two of the Aggie Open featuring more track and field events including shot put, long jump, 100 meter dash, and the 400 meter. The live scoring link can be found at sonomaseawolves.com.
