Volleyball Wraps Up Regular Season With 3-0 Win

ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Freshman Hayley Ross served five aces and sophomore Ally Sather had 11 kills with a .391 hitting percentage to lead Sonoma State to a 3-0 sweep (25-22, 25-17, 25-22) of visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills on Senior Night at The Wolves' Den. The Seawolves (17-9, 14-8 CCAA), who finished fourth in the conference standings for the second straight year, will await word on their postseason fate as the 2010 NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship bracket will be unveiled on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Sonoma State was ranked at No. 5 in the last official NCAA Division II West Region poll, released last week. The selection show will take place via a live webcast on www.ncaa.com at 7 p.m. Pacific Time. The top eight teams in the region will qualify for the NCAA tournament and the Seawolves are looking to make their third straight appearance.

Despite eight service errors, the Seawolves were able to redeem themselves with a 12 aces, one short of tying their season high. Ross accounted for five of them while passing out a team-high 18 assists. Sather and junior Keala Peterson slammed 11 kills apiece, combining for 22 of the team's 38 kills in the match. Sather hit at a season-high .391 in the sweep of the Toros while senior Kendahl Batiste hammered five kills.

Junior Taylor Krenwinkel dug ten attacks as she recorded double-digit digs in 23 of Sonoma State's 26 matches this season.

As a team, the Seawolves hit .257, compared to Cal State Dominguez Hills' clip of .155. The Toros led in both defensive categories -- digs (47-43) and blocks (6-4). Elaine Hicks led the way for CSUDH with 13 kills and Denise Devine added 11. Celeste Tuioti recorded a game-high 13 digs.

Sonoma State wrapped up the regular season with a fourth place finish, one game back of Cal State East Bay. No. 6 Cal State San Bernardino won the CCAA crown for the eighth time in ten years. It is the third straight season that the Seawolves won at least 14 conference games and head coach Bear Grassl needs just two victories to record his 100th conference win. (141-108 overall, 98-88 in conference).
